Rustam Essay Management

     Once enrolled in an MBA program in the United States, I intend to study general management and accounting. This program is important because my personal and professional goal is to establish a private university in Uzbekistan. I came up with this idea after launching and running my own English language teaching center in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. However, as my business grows, I have run into difficulty in managing financial resources and human resources in my center.

     The management system I have applied in my firm is simple and has no hierarchy. I have designed this firm, according to the best knowledge of mine and my friends, who have also taken risks in launching their own enterprises in Uzbekistan. Although my business worked pretty well before increasing the capacity of my centre, today I am overwhelmed in communicating with my staff of more than 20 teachers, an accountant and two office managers. I do my best to avoid miscommunication and professional misconduct among my personnel, but it is getting harder and harder to do so. In order to put my centre on right track, make it efficient and effective and eventually turn the language centre into the premier university in Tashkent requires a lot of know-how, managerial experience and deep knowledge in accounting.

     Although accounting is the language of business, as it is said in this trade, I have my own interpretation in this regard, which is a bit obscured. Having run my firm a year, I came to believe that accounting is a source of misunderstanding among the bank that offers its service to my centre, my personal accountant and my potential investors. I have come to that point where a mere help on behalf of my accountant not only has created a problem, but also will likely to breed an obstacle in expanding my business endeavour. As a director of the successful language centre in Tashkent, I believe that relying on the knowledge of one person and the ignorance of my own in finance will lead me nowhere, but probably, hopefully not, to bankruptcy. Hence, I am committed to studying accounting thoroughly once enrolled in an MBA program.

     I believe that the knowledge and skills I will gain both in management and accounting through participation in the Muskie program will make me a successful entrepreneur not only in Uzbekistan, but probably in Central Asia as a whole. I am sure that once I will be good at management and accounting, I will be able to take a risk to pursue my professional goals further with confidence.
