Transport in the UK

 

1. Trains are still a safe, fast and comfortable way of travelling. But

there is one big problem which deters British people from using them: the price. British trains are very expensive to travel on. If you go to a station, buy a ticket and get on the train, you may end up paying a fortune. To avoid a shock, there are two secrets: one, get to know a full list of all the special types of tickets available; and two, book in advance.

     Coach services are much cheaper. Of course there are disadvantages: no restaurant, no room to walk around, no tables. The worst drawback is that the coach station is in the middle of the city, there is usually a long struggle through the traffic before your coach gets out onto the motorway.

       2. It has long been noted that car driving has some psychological effects on human beings. Forty years ago, private car ownership was growing rapidly, and public transport was losing its dominant role. Roads became overcrowded. More and more often, people were getting of their cars and starting fights with other drivers; murders were committed. Many drivers felt anger, frustration, competition and irritation when driving. The phenomenon got its name: road rage.

      3. New policies,  which were introduced at the end of the 20^th century had a positive impact on the transport system. The government started thinking about limiting the number of cars on the road and it increased the transport tax and introduced new environmental requirements to vehicles. As a result the number of vehicles have fallen since the new laws came into action.

      4. The UK is one of the members of the European Union. The country contributes much to its development. The transport sector makes a vital contribution to the European barrier-free single market. Without efficient transport networks, two of the European Union’s basic principles – the free movement of goods and of EU citizens – would not function. The UK initiated and supported the projects like the EU high-speed train system, the Channel tunnel and the modernization of air traffic control.

     Проезд на автобусе значительно дешевле. Но есть, конечно, недостатки: нет ресторана, нет места для прогулки, нет столов. Худшим недостатком является то, что автовокзал находится в центре города, там, как правило, автобус стоит в большой пробке, после которой он уже выходит на шоссе. 
       2. Уже давно было отмечено, что вождение автомобиля влияет на психику человека. Сорок лет назад количество автовладельцев резко увеличилось , и общественный транспорт потерял свою роль. Дороги оказались переполненными. Все больше и больше людей выходили из своих машин и начинали драки с другими водителями, были совершены убийства. Многие водители чувствовали гнев, разочарование, конкуренции и раздражение во время вождения. Явление получило свое название: агрессивное поведение на дороге. 
      3. Новые реформы, которые были введены в конце 20-го века оказали положительное влияние на транспортную систему. Правительство начало думать об ограничении числа автомобилей на дорогах, увеличили транспортный налог и ввели новые экологические требования к транспортным средствам. В результате число автомобилей упало, так как новые законы вступили в действие. 
      4. Великобритания является одним из членов Европейского союза. Страна вносит много в его развитие. Транспортный сектор вносит важнейший вклад в развитие  европейского единого рынка. Без эффективных транспортных сетей, два из основных принципов Евросоюза - свободное передвижение товаров и граждан ЕС - не будет функционировать. Великобритания проявляет инициативу при поддержке проектов, таких как ЕС высокоскоростной железнодорожной системы, туннель под Ла-Маншем и модернизации управления воздушным движением.
