Invention of the microwave oven

Американский  инженер Перси Спенсер впервые  заметил способность сверхвысокочастотного  излучения к нагреванию продуктов  и запатентовал микроволновую печь. Спенсер работал в момент изобретения  в компании Raytheon, занимающейся изготовлением  оборудования для радаров. По легенде, когда он проводил эксперименты с очередным магнетроном, Спенсер заметил, что кусок шоколада в его кармане расплавился. По другой версии, он заметил, что нагрелся бутерброд, положенный на включённый магнетрон. 
 
Патент на микроволновую печь был выдан в 1946 году. Первая микроволновая печь была построена фирмой и была Raytheon предназначена для быстрого промышленного приготовления пищи. Её высота была примерно равна человеческому росту, масса — 340 кг, мощность — 3 кВт, что примерно в три раза больше мощности современной бытовой СВЧ-печи. Стоила эта печь около 3000 $. Она использовалась, в основном, в солдатских столовых и столовых военных госпиталей. 
 
Первая серийная бытовая микроволновая печь была выпущена японской фирмой Sharp в 1962 году. Первоначально спрос на новое изделие был невысок. 
 
В СССР микроволновые печи выпускал завод ЗИЛ.

Its height was approximately equal to human growth, weight - 340 kg, power - 3 kW, which is approximately three times the power of modern household microwave ovens. This furnace was worth about $ 3000. It was used mainly in canteens and dining rooms of military hospitals.  

The first production, domestic microwave oven was released by Japanese firm Sharp in 1962. Initially, the demand for new product was low.  

In the USSR microwaves produced factory ZIL.
